Our Community
The Village of Mattoon was incorporated in 1901 consisting of 932 people. It began as a logging community with multiple lumber mills and a railway. Today, Mattoon is home to 432 people and still houses a lumber mill. Mattoon offers a grassroots community featuring a volunteer fire department and EMS, multiple community organizations, and a variety of parks and recreational activities.
